I built this banjo for my son Russ's high school graduation gift. It was largely constructed in hotel rooms while I traveled for my day job. The banjo uses raw brass parts (tension hoop, hooks, shoes and nuts) from friend Bill Rickard, and a thin deep block rim constructed by banjo building pal Dave Large (Ironton, OH). The rim uses a top row of persimmon from Dave's property for the "tone ring". The banjo has a 25" scale and extra wide neck and fingerboard. As with most of my wood carving, it was done with short handled palm chisels and gouges.
